Indie Weekends: Solstice Scents Woodland Collection Review

The Solstice Scents Woodland Collection arrived, which is part two of their winter collection of scents. I just love getting the little perfume sampler set with all the scents, because they're inexpensive, small to store, and I don't think I'd ever finish one of these, so if I want more of a scent I can always wait until next year. And it's pretty much always in stock, so even if you have to wait to get the sample pack, you still can after the initial release.

AboutSolstice Scents is an indie bath and body and perfumery, that sells perfumes, whipped soap, body ganache creams, bath soaks, and their burnishing glace sprays, which are kind of like body mists or can be used as bath oils. They are based out of Florida, and offer a main collection scent line, as well as seasonal collections that can mostly be ordered all year in sample form.

Shipping - I purchased this set the first day it went up for sale, and it shipped 4 days later. It arrived in 2 days via USPS from Florida to California.

Product Size - The perfume samples come in 1ml glass vials. You can also purchase some of these as full size rollerballs.

Free Samples - I always receive 1 free sample size with every order, and the scent can be chosen from the drop down menu at checkout.

Grey's Cabin - "Smoked Cocoa, Cedar, Embers, Black Musk, Copal Bark, Tobacco, Spice"

This smells like the scent of smoky cocoa and vanilla, with a hint of cedar. After dry down I start to get hints of musk and spice, but it's not overwhelming. It is definitely a winter scent, and almost reminds me of sitting by the fireplace. I really love this one. I saw another review where the person loved this scent because it was nostalgic for her, and I don't have any nostalgia attached to this, but I still love it. Which is fascinating to me. This perfume is definitely a little smoky, so if you're not into that, you might not like this one. But it's also got that hint of sweetness, which balances it out beautifully.

Hidden Lodge - "Dry Wood Blend, Oud, Woodsmoke, Spices, Castoreum"

Very smoky and spicy, smells like a campfire almost. But it's also not overpowering, and I wonder if the oud is balancing it out. It's very masculine, but is balanced so beautifully that I wouldn't mind wearing this. It's already starting to feel like spring here (#californiaproblems) and this just reminds me of a winter fire in the fireplace of some lodge in the middle of the mountains. I am so surprised at how much I enjoy this scent.

Monarch - "Rich Red Musk, Fir, Juniper, Cedar, Frankincense, Labdanum, Moss"

It smells like an incense shop, musky, and a hint of fir. I also can get a bit of cedar, but it's mostly just very musky. Cedar-y, musky, and a bit of sweetness as it starts to dry down. It's quite calm though, not overbearing. Over time, it doesn't really morph for me, also didn't last too long either. 2 hours in and it's barely hanging on.

Night Watcher - "Forest Floor, Tree Tops, Bark, Mountain Air, Fir Balsam, Juniper, Moss, Oud, Dried Herbs, Cedar Tips"

This one really smells like you're outdoors, in a forest. It's hard to pick out any one note, it's mostly the scent of going on a hike. It's kind of strong so be light with the application of this one. But it smells lovely. From far away, I don't think anyone would say you smell like a forest, but it's definitely a more masculine perfume. This one also had the most throw, I could smell this one all day and it was so lovely. I really surprisingly loved this perfume.

White Fox - "Vanilla Musk, White Fur, Wood Blend, Frozen Dirt, Snow"

At first sniff this wasn't as sweet as I imagined it, more of a woodsy scent. The vanilla starts to come through after dry down and I like it. It's not strong at all, hugs very close to the skin. Then I start getting more of the dirt and woodsy notes.

Winter Dove - "Vanilla Crystals, Spicy Carnation, Nutmeg, Cream"

I immediately can pick out the nutmeg which is pretty spicy. Or it's the spicy carnation giving it the spicy quality it has to it. The vanilla is there, but the spiciness overwhelms it a little. I can't decide if I like this one or not. The amount of spice it has is kind of off-putting for me, but I can tell it's going to go away fairly quickly, and the vanilla and cream will be more prominent. After a few hours it did mellow out, and become something I liked much more, but probably my least favorite of the collection. Not bad, just not as good as the others.

Overall, I really loved this collection. There was not a single one I did not like/love. I especially loved the woodsy ones, like Grey's Cabin, Hidden Lodge, Night Watcher, and White Fox. My absolute favorite has to be Grey's Cabin, there's just something about that scent that is just perfect. If you're still holding on to winter, this is a great collection to pick up. I can't decide if I like it more than the Winter collection, but this is overall a much more masculine woodsy collection.

Customer Service - I did not have to contact customer service regarding any problems with my order.

Availability - This collection is limited edition, but usually the perfume sampler is pretty easy to purchase any time.

Overall Satisfaction - My favorite scent was Grey's Cabin. I highly recommend this collection if you like masculine or woodsy scents. I can't wait to see what the spring collections from Solstice Scents have in store.
