NARS Sephora Beauty Insider Birthday Gift Review

I mentioned in another review that I was getting the Sephora free Beauty Insider birthday gift item this year. Last year I didn't really care for it, I think it was a mascara, so I didn't bother with it. Well this year is a NARS lip pencil mini set, which comes with two pencils, in two colors and two finishes. And let's just say I'm a NARS convert.

I'm kind of ashamed to admit, this is my first time trying a NARS product other than their primer, which I have a small sample of. Mostly because it's an expensive habit, and I've mostly moved away from mainstream makeup, in favor of indie brands. But if the point of the free birthday gift was to convince you to spend money on NARS, then call me convinced.

NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien -

This is a satin finish lip pencil, and this was my first time using a lip pencil too! It makes it so easy to apply and get a crisp line. This shade is a perfect "my lips but better" shade for me, I was applying it and almost couldn't tell where my lips ended and the product began. Because it is a satin, it does transfer a bit more than the matte shade, but since it's such a good color match for me, it won't be too noticeable, or hard to reapply.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella -

I applied this shade, and didn't ever want to take it off it was so comfortable. Probably the most comfortable and best looking matte lip product I've ever tried. With this in a pencil form, it's so easy to apply precisely, and it didn't even feather that much without a lip liner. I wore this through eating, drinking, and almost forgot to take it off at night because I forgot it was there. It held up, transferred a bit, but it wasn't noticeable. I want more shades. It's just too bad these are so expensive, because I would love to get quite a few, but will probably settle for getting one or two for special occasions.

I would recommend these lip pencils to anyone, especially the matte if you think most matte products are too drying. This one was not at all, and the satin shade was such a great "my lips but better". If you were thinking of skipping trying to get your Sephora birthday gift, I suggest you grab it, as these are some great quality products which I've fallen in love with.
